Listen Up Nerds: ‘Star Trek Discovery’ Casts Its Captain
Let’s get two things out of the way right off the bat: 1) Star Trek is nerdy and 2) that’s perfectly okay.
If you make fun of someone for liking Star Trek, you’re really just making yourself look bad. Do you know how astronomically successful, both critically and commercially, a franchise has to be to stick around for more than 50 years? So sit down and shut up.
The new entry in the franchise, CBS All-Access’ upcoming Star Trek: Discovery has finally cast its captain. Jason Isaacs (The OA, Harry Potter, a bunch of other things) will take on the role of Captain Lorca, EW reports.
Star Trek: Discovery will star Sonequa Martin-Green as the main character, a lieutenant. This will mark the first time a Star Trek series didn’t feature a captain as the main character. Also starring is Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, a Starfleet captain aboard another ship. Additionally, the series includes Mary Wiseman as Tilly, James Frain as Spock’s father, Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, and Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets.
Unfortunately, that’s all we really know about the show. CBS All-Access is keeping details about the series tightly under wraps. We don’t even know which characters are regular, recurring or guest stars. The only other nugget of information we have is that the series takes place roughly 10-20 years before the original series.
Star Trek: Discovery is currently in production, though it is not known when the series will premiere.
